Tasks of the Senate
The Senate is a democratically elected self-governing body of the university and is composed of members from all status groups. Its responsibilities include:
- Electing and dismissing members of the Executive Board
- Forming Senate committees for university issues
- Issuing statements on fundamental issues
- Deciding on the basic regulations, other regulations, the university development plan, and the gender equality plan
The Executive Board is accountable to the Senate.
Composition
The Senate includes the members of the Executive Board, the Equal Opportunities Officer and the deans of the faculties without voting rights, as well as 19 representatives with voting rights from all status groups at the university:
- 10 university teachers
- 3 research assistants
- 3 technical and administrative staff
- 3 students

Senate representatives
The Senate representatives perform special functions. They are appointed directly by the Senate for overarching issues at the university.
Senate committees
The Senate committees prepare resolutions or statements by the Senate, advise the Executive Board and, depending on their remit, also advise the faculties (e.g. Central Study Committee) or central institutions (e.g. Equal Opportunities Committee).
They are elected by the members of their respective member groups in the Senate.
